Introduction

Afrika-Verein is the German business association for German companies and institutions with business interests in African countries.

For almost 100 years the association assists its members by providing up to date business information, creating business links and representing the interests of its members in Germany, Europe and Africa.

More than 600 members include the major German multinationals as well as many medium sized companies with trade links with or investments in African countries.

On the African continent, Afrika-Verein enjoys well established links with African Governments and the administration, but also with industry leaders, Chambers of Commerce, development corporations and other agencies. Afrika-Verein maintains an effective network of antennae in most African countries.

At the European level, the association is a founder member of EBCAM – European Business Council of Africa and Mediterranean in Brussels. EBCAM participates in the formulation of a European development policy for Africa.

In Germany, Afrika-Verein regularly organises trade & investment seminars and other events for African Heads of States, Ministries and business associations.

Together with the BDI – German Confederation of Industry and the DIHT – the Association of Chambers of Industry and Commerce, Afrika-Verein has started and actively supports two major initiatives of the German private sector for Africa:

SAFRI – The Initiative for Southern Africa and

NMI – The Initiative for Northern Africa and the Middle East

For African businesses and institutions Afrika-Verein can be the natural partner and gateway to Germany and Europe.
