Organisation and Structure
The Afrika-Verein is an association of persons, companies and organisations with an interest in Africa. The Association promotes the development of economic and cultural relations between Germany and Africa in the spirit of partnership. Its focus is on promoting private business, trade and investment, education, the Rule of Law and an exchange of information.
The Association offers a German-African platform for establishing contacts and exchanging information and opinions. This is achieved by organising events such as bilateral business forums, sectoral forums and business trips. In addition, the Afrika-Verein offers its members, its African partners and the general public a broad range of information on German-African relations. This information is conveyed through its bi-monthly quality magazine, the “afrika wirtschaft” (African Business), email Newsletters, studies and this website.
The Association has two organs, namely the Board of Directors and the General Members´ Meeting. The latter is constituted by all members of the Association.
Dr Stefan Liebing chairs the Board of Directors, which consists of eminent representatives of the German private sector. Drawing on their vast experience and specialised knowledge, the Board members guide the activities of the Association in the interests of all members. The Board includes high-profile representatives of the German banking sector, industrial companies as well as medium and small-sized enterprises, all of whom have extensive experience of doing business in Africa. The Board sets the goals of the Association and defines its tasks.
The day-to-day activities of the Afrika-Verein are managed by its Executive Vice President, Mr Hans W. Meier-Ewert, assisted by a committed group of staff members. This team provides full-time support to the members of the association and continually develop new concepts and projects to promote the interests of its members and African partners.
AVV - Afrika-Verein Business Events
The AVV - Afrika-Verein Business Events is the advisory arm of Afrika-Verein. Its major role consists in providing assistance and advising German and African enterprises, business associations as well as public institutions and governments in all issues regarding investment and trade promotion. The AVV enjoys an experience of many years in organising business trips for African delegations to Germany, putting them in contact with desired local partners. Among other activities, the AVV organises conferences, business trips for delegations in different cities, visits of enterprises both in Germany and in Africa. The AVV also fosters individual contacts for members and partners.
