Africa - A continent of opportunities

The German-African Business Association (Afrika-Verein der deutschen Wirtschaft) is a foreign trade association representing companies and institutions actice in Africa or wanting to become active on the African continent. We are Europe´s largest africa-focused business network and provide our members with valuable contacts in Germany and Africa. We consult, establish reliable contacts and provide information. Members profit from our decades-long experience in Africa related issues and a wide network in Africa, Germany and the world. Join us and become a member!


The Association was founded in 1934. Now, in 2019 we have over 550 members. Our members are mainly German, but also African companies, institutions and individuals. The Afrika-Verein offices are situated in Hamburg and Berlin, Germany.

Dynamic growth, improved economic policy, political stabilisation: Africa is a region undergoing change with enormous potential for German business.

  • Many African countries have been among the fastest growing economies in the world.
  • Increasing numbers of German companies are taking advantage of the business opportunities: around 1.000 German businesses are active in Africa today which create about 200,000 jobs on the continent.
  • Foreign trade between Germany and Africa totalled some € 45.1 billion in 2018 (German exports: € 22.6 billion, African imports € 22.5 billion).
