European Parliament adopts CSDDD: Afrika-Verein Criticizes Inadequate Support Measures from BMZ and Warns of High Costs

With the European Parliament's adoption of the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD a new chapter in the regulation of global supply chains has begun. While the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) celebrates the directive as "good news for partner countries", Afrika-Verein views it as the start of new challenges—even with the support measures presented by the BMZ. "The measures introduced are just a drop in the ocean, as they inadequately flank the directive. What would be appropriate now is an improvement in financing conditions and risk coverage for European companies, as well as support for African companies that lack the means to meet the new standards," states Christoph Kannengießer, CEO of Afrika-Verein.
