Beyond aid! How Africa takes steps towards self-sufficiency

Africa’s economic narrative is shifting. As global powers turn inward, African governments are charting a new course – reducing reliance on foreign aid and building resilience on their own terms. This transformation is visible across key sectors. Resource-rich nations are pushing for local processing and value addition, reshaping mining value chains and creating new opportunities for investors. At the same time, industrialisation strategies are evolving: instead of focusing solely on exports to Europe and the US, countries are strengthening regional trade and operationalising the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA). Financing models are also changing. With Western aid contributions declining, governments are tapping into local pools of capital and deregulating financial markets to unlock domestic investment.

Afrika-Verein in collaboration with Control Risks invites you to join us for an in-depth discussion on what these shifts mean for businesses and how to position for success in this new era of African self-sufficiency.

What you’ll learn:
- How Africa’s move towards self-sufficiency is reshaping trade, industrialisation, and resource strategies.
- What these developments mean for German companies’ business models and investment decisions
  across the continent.
- Practical steps to mitigate challenges such as resource nationalism, regulatory changes, and
  shifting trade dynamics.
- How to identify new opportunities in regional value chains and local financing markets.
