The East African Community (EAC) is one of the African Union's most integrated regional economic communities. In its customs union, most goods and services are traded duty-free between member states, and there is free movement of people and capital.

However, non-tariff barriers to trade (NTBs) continue to pose a major challenge. NTBs encompass various practices and procedures that hinder trade, including government intervention, customs-related restrictions, administrative entry procedures, technical barriers to trade (TBT), sanitary and phytosanitary measures (SPS), specific restrictions, import fees, procedural hurdles, and logistical challenges.

The East African Business Council (EABC), a long-standing partner of the Afrika-Verein, has set itself the task of identifying NTBs and eliminating them within the framework of the Regional Monitoring Committee (RMC). We would like to exchange ideas with you in an exclusive round about NTBs and other topics. Please feel free to send us your topics and concerns in advance.

The AV Expert Circle EAC takes place regularly and is exclusively for members of Afrika-Verein. Participation is free of charge. The event takes place in English.
