The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) adopted the National Development Plan 2020-2024 (NDP-9) in 2019. It provides the foundation for the Government’s reform program and strategy for poverty reduction and inclusive growth and qualifies as a HIPC Initiative’s Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP). It is organised around four pillars: 1) inclusive politics, 2) improved security and the rule of law, 3) Inclusive economic growth, and 4) improved human development and resilience to shocks.

In recent developments some additional efforts for economic growth have been put in place, both from the Somalian Diaspora and also from multilateral organisations such as UNIDO, EU etc.

As the country’s largest development partner, the European Union wishes to promote a favourable investment climate and business environment to support Somalia’s efforts towards economic transformation and the green transition, where the private sector contributes to sustainable growth and the creation of decent jobs for all. Somalia-EU Investment, Trade and Business Platform (ITBP) was incepted in November 2022.

UNIDO supports Somalia through various programme initiatives to the Somali private sector to build its capacities. Focus sectors are: Agriculture, Fishery, Livestock, Poultry, Dairy and Infrastructure.

Young Somalis are now changing the narrative in Somalia. From ICT, Logistics and Agriculture to Retail and Manufacturing, small businesses led by young men and women are becoming commonplace and are keen in having business partnerships.

The Round Table will be held in English. Participation in the event is free of charge for Afrika-Verein members. Non-members pay 30,- EUR (incl. VAT).
